Here’s our Family Favorites:
Disney Plus
1. Brain Games – Suitable for almost all ages (including the parents). Fun games to play while watching and you learn a lot.
2. The Mandalorian – I would say this show is easier to watch than clone wars for younger viewers. I would say suitable for 9+.
3. Star Wars Resistance – Better for younger kids (6-8), but still enjoyable for all.
4. Star Wars Rebels – Better for older kids (8-12). Some scarier episodes (Darth Maul/Darthomir stuff)
5. Star wars Clone Wars – While I enjoy the content, I feel like this is NOT a kids show. Routinely killing soldiers, overly sarcastic characters, and other adult themes. That being said, my kids still watch it (9+). We went thru Resistance and Rebels before starting this though. The original clone wars cartoon early 2000s is much better in my opinion (the whole series can be found on youtube). Still has some scarier parts for kids, but overall I feel it’s better content and better for kids.
Netflix
1. Haikyu – Japanese volleyball anime is amazing, fun, emotional but probably for older kids 9+. Volleyball experience not required. The story and content is mostly great with a few caveats. There is a lot of swearing in the subtitles (even when they aren’t swearing in Japanese). There is some high school romance/hormones type stuff (not a lot, but it’s there occasionally) that is typical of Japanese anime. There are some cut scenes where characters faces change to red eyes/sharp teeth which is mostly for comedic effect, but could be scary for some younger viewers. We watch this as a family. Only 2 seasons are on netflix before you have to move to CrunchyRoll. After watching this show, we started playing volleyball outside as a family.
2. Pokemon Journeys – for the younger crowd. Good animation and new series for Pokemon
3. Carmen Sandiego – Good stories and action. Some of the villains can be scary for younger children. I would say 9+
4. Fast and Furious Spy Racers – Not a great show, but the kids like it. Car racing, action, spy stuff. Also probably 9+.
3. Jeopardy – It’s Jeopardy. RIP Alex Trebeck
Previous favorite shows (When the kids were younger)
1. Planet Earth
2. Blue Planet
3. Lego Masters
4. Wild Kratts
5. Octonauts
6. Paw Patrol
Prior to the pandemic we didn’t watch too much TV. Now we try to make it family time when we can. Our kids were also late to watching shows so my estimates for suitable ages is probably on the higher end. I would check common sense media and review for yourself. As you can tell, the family is very into star wars.
